Painting the Buddha is any artist’s delight. Capturing the ‘Light of Asia’ in colours and glorifying the canvases surely gives the same subliminal experience to an artist as the enlightenment gave to Buddha. Mr M N Patil’s paintings of Buddha take us through the tunnel filled with tranquillity and spiritual effulgence. Each piece of work speaks volumes about the different facets of Buddha - the artist has portrayed this through some splendid images: lotus – the evergreen abode of the Lord; cow – the symbol of tolerance and humility; pigeon – messenger of peace; the stairs - the symbol of elevating one to the ultimate truth – Buddha; the Banyan tree - the roof of knowledge, the conch shell - a wake up sound for the Lord. Patil has used the hues red, yellow, blue and green profusely thereby making the pictures appear lively and restates his uniqueness and inimitable style. Observe the picture with a conspicuous conch shell and the ever peaceful face of Buddha; they complement each other yet stand out. The Buddhist boy with a flower in his hands is exquisite as the artist has marvellously etched the wonderful calmness of Buddha’s lotus face on the boy’s countenance. The Buddha as a theme for his paintings breathes serenity and harmony into a world of baffling complexities and moral corruption. Patil’s mystic renderings to the world of art stand true to the saying ‘A picture speaks a thousand words’ and they are, without a speck of doubt, a feast to every soul.
